Origin Story
The Katha Upanishad narrates the story of young Nachiketa, who was sent to the abode of Yama, the god of death, by his father in a moment of anger. Waiting patiently for three days, Nachiketa impressed Yama with his fearlessness and wisdom, and in return was taught the deepest truths about the soul, death, and liberation. Yama revealed that the soul is eternal and that true peace comes not from fear of death but from understanding it. This teaching forms the philosophical foundation of Pitra Shanti Puja, which seeks to grant departed souls the same understanding and peaceful transition that Nachiketa learned directly from Yama himself.
