Origin Story
According to the Puranas, when a drop of Lord Shiva's sweat fell upon the earth during intense penance, Bhoomi Devi (the earth) conceived and gave birth to a fierce red-complexioned son named Mangal, at the sacred site now known as Ujjain. Shiva blessed his son and granted him a place among the Navagrahas as the planet Mars. Because Ujjain is believed to be his very birthplace, remedies for Mangal Dosh performed here at the Mangal Nath Mandir are considered far more potent than anywhere else.
