Significance & Origin
Havan and Yagya are ancient fire rituals in which offerings are made to Agni Dev, who is believed to carry them to the respective deities, purifying the surrounding environment and the minds of all participants.
Origin Story
One of the most significant Yagyas mentioned in the Puranas is the Daksha Yagya, performed by King Daksha, father of Goddess Sati. When Daksha deliberately excluded Lord Shiva from the invitation, Sati, unable to bear the insult to her husband, sacrificed herself in the sacred fire. This event led to great cosmic upheaval and eventually the emergence of Shakti Peethas across the land, showing how sacred a Yagya fire truly is and why it must be conducted with the utmost respect and completeness.
